IN THE NEWS:

New Lambchop tour CD.
On sale right now at some shows is a new tour CD, "Pet Sounds Sucks," which is 9 tracks of a show from San Francisco of March this year. Plus the extra track "flub." I do not know if flub is the same as the one on TCOE (ver 2). You better bring yer money to the show, cuz there's only a thousand of them made. Lambchop originally wanted to record and sell each of their shows in this fashion but the logistics have proved too great. Perhaps in the future.

Lambchop EP and video.
City Slang Records is set to release another flurry of remixes for the title track of the new album "Is a Woman" featuring the tweaking Schneider TM, Maxwell Implosion and Alpha. The CD will be enhanced to feature a video for "Is a Woman" directed by the Shynola group (previous work on UNKLE, Stephen Malkmus, and Radiohead's "Pyramid Song")

Lambchop does Lee, Hazlewood that is.
The Legendary pop mind behind Duane Eddy's and Nancy Sinatra's biggest hits gets the royal cover treatment by a number of bands on a forthcoming tribute album. Lambchop's contribution is "Never Had a Gun"

And with that little bit of news, my count of Lambchop officially-released covers not appearing on an album in the year 2002 now stands at 4: Kinks "Art Lover," Sisters of Mercy "This Corrosion," Rolling Stones "Backstreet Girl," and Lee Hazlewood "Never Had a Gun."

LAMBCHOP
If  you haven't heard of them, you probably aren't from Nashville, France, or the UK.

Lambchop was formed in Nashville, TN in about 1986 under the moniker "poster child." After a threatened lawsuit from warner bros. band PosterChildren for copyright enfringement, the band changed names in 1993. They often played at Lucy's record shop on Church St. during its six year stint as the first all-ages club in Nashville with national indie-rock credibility (It was also known as a fine record store). Their regular playing was due mostly to the fact that the singer Kurt, and Lucy's owner, Mary were married. Yet Lambchop never closed a show--it was always either a backup band or an opener for the likes of Vic Chesnutt, Guided By Voices, Doo Rag, Bugskull, June of 44, Superchunk, Portastatic, Spent, Blonde Redhead, and many other Chicago, Louisville, or North Carolina based acts as well as many Nashville bands.

Their largest exposures have been the following: playing the second stage for several weeks on the 1994 Lollapalooza along with Stereolab, when lambchop was still but a forming band; playing with Vic Chesnutt on Late Night with Conan O'Brien; and playing with Vic Chesnutt on the PBS series called "Sessions." Because of the sheer size of the band (seven to fourteen members at any given time) the band seldom tours, so check them out when they do.
In conclusion, they most definitely are not a Sherri Lewis tribute band.

Here's the official biographical listing of Lambchop as on the Merge Records Homepage:

"Lambchop is Nashville's most fucked-up country band. They aren't influenced by country music--they influence country music. Their music is even smoother than Del Reeves, and they have more musicians than Tanya Tucker's bathroom antics: two guitars, one bass, two drummers, pedal steel guitar, open-end wrenches, lacquer-thinner can, organ, xylophone, euphonium, trombone, baritone sax, trumpet, clarinet, bongoes, resonating metal square, and a vanilla extract bottle. Although they strive to be truly Nashville, they are virtually ignored in Nashville. In a town where every No. 1 single is recognized with a splashy Billboard overlooking the offices on Music Row, they labor quietly and diligently, waiting for the day when someone--Tony Brown, Aubrey Mayhew, Faith Hill--will return their phone calls or sexual advances. Chet Atkins may have turned his back on country music, but Lambchop haven't. As they discreetly continue to develop the New Nashville Sound in recording studios all across Music City, they know the day will come when the deadbeat moms and dads of country music will fess up and recognize their illegitimate children as the true inheritors of country music."
